Privacy Policy

How Your Information Is Handled

Inner Horizon Psychology takes the protection of your personal and health information seriously. We collect and hold information that is reasonably necessary to provide psychological services and administer your care. This may include your name and contact details, date of birth, Medicare information, referral information, health and medical information, information provided during sessions, clinical notes, assessments and relevant correspondence.

Information may be collected directly from you, including through appointments, forms, email and online bookings, or where appropriate from other people involved in your care, such as your referring GP or another treating professional.

How Your Information Is Used

Your personal and health information is used primarily to provide and manage your psychological care. It may also be used for related administrative purposes, including appointment management, billing, Medicare claims, communicating with referrers and meeting professional and legal obligations.

Storage and Access

Records are stored securely. Access is limited to authorised people who need the information to provide or administer your care. Reasonable steps are taken to protect personal and health information from misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.

Personal and health information is handled in accordance with applicable Australian and NSW privacy requirements.

Confidentiality

What you share in therapy is private and confidential. Information may need to be shared if required or authorised by law, where there is a serious concern about your safety or someone else’s safety, where legal reporting obligations apply, including some child protection matters, or where you have given consent for information to be shared.

Where possible and appropriate, this will be discussed with you first.

Sharing Information With Other Professionals

It may sometimes be helpful or necessary for your psychologist to communicate with your GP, psychiatrist or another professional involved in your care. Your consent will generally be obtained before information is shared. If you are receiving Medicare-funded treatment, some communication with your referring practitioner may be required.

Professional Supervision and Consultation

Psychologists may occasionally discuss their clinical work with another appropriately qualified professional as part of supervision, consultation or peer review. Identifying information is removed or limited wherever possible, only information relevant to the consultation is shared, and the professionals involved are also bound by confidentiality and professional obligations.

Overseas Services

Inner Horizon Psychology uses reputable third-party service providers to support the delivery and administration of its services. While clinical information held in our practice management system is stored in Australia, some service providers may process limited information outside Australia, including in the United States. Where this occurs, reasonable steps are taken to ensure that personal information is handled appropriately and in accordance with applicable privacy requirements.

Access and Correction

You may request access to, or correction of, your personal or health information, subject to applicable legal exceptions. Requests can be made by contacting Inner Horizon Psychology.

Telehealth and Electronic Communication

Online and phone sessions are available by arrangement. Please attend online sessions from a private space where you feel comfortable speaking freely. If a connection is interrupted, your psychologist will contact you using the agreed method.

Email and text are generally used for appointments and other practical matters and are not monitored as an emergency service.

Privacy Concerns or Complaints

If you have a question or concern about how your personal or health information has been handled, please contact Inner Horizon Psychology. We will aim to respond to privacy concerns promptly and appropriately.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may also have the right to make a complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner or the Information and Privacy Commission NSW.
